The Way We Were
Class Officers...
To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people and
the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics and
endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty,
to find the best in others;
to leave the world a little better; whether by
a healthy child, a garden patch or a
redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier
because you have lived.
This is the meaning of success.

Aiken High School Alma Mater

In the land of flowers and sunshine
Is our Aiken High...
There a tower of truth and learning
Points to the sky.

Chorus:
Hail to Aiken, Alma Mater
Tender, fair, and true;
Grateful we with love unfailing
All our vows renew.
Years may dim our recollection
Time its change may bring,
Still thy name in fond affection
Evermore we sing.

Chorus:
Hail to Aiken, Alma Mater
Tender, fair, and true;
Grateful we with love unfailing
All our vows renew.

All six of us are in these somewhere: Beasley, Franklin, Roberts, DeHart, Mills, and me. The one of me (#33) was the greatest high school shot I can ever recall, but not because that it was caught on this group of pictures. It was because I faked their star, Biff Bracey, with a right hand move and blew by him with a left handed lay up. I roomed with Bracey our freshman year at Duke and never let him forget that moment. And in that picture is also another Duke guy, Beasley, with whom I roomed for two years at Duke as well.
